Sue Cameron
Vice Chairman and representative on the Village Hall Committee
I am married to Russell and we have two grown up daughters. We have lived in the village for 14 years and live at Pine Corner. Preston. I am a retired teacher and finished my teaching career at Kingshill School.
I joined the Parish Council about 12 years ago and now hold the position of Deputy Chair. I was encouraged to join the council by a friend in the village. I honestly didn’t know how a Parish Council worked back then and didn’t really know what to expect but felt it was a good way of getting involved in the village and locally as we had moved here from out of the area. I now realise and understand the importance of having a Parish Council in our village. Even though our village is only small, as a Parish Council we work together and feel very strongly about maintaining the village identity of Preston and keeping the green belt between here and the town of Cirencester.
I have actively been involved in the Village Design Statement which then led on to the Neighbourhood Plan. This was adopted by Cotswold District Council. This document is very important to help protect Preston, particularly when planning applications are submitted in and around our village.
I was also involved when the planning application was submitted for the Solar Farm on WitPit Lane and was part of the team that negotiated with the developers to get a community benefit for our village.
As a Parish Council we meet every other month and it would be great if we could get more people in the village involved at our meetings. We all have a voice about where we live and its important we all work together to protect our lovely village.
