Highways and Planning
I live at Vine Cottage, Preston with my wife Jan. We have two daughters who live on the Northern outskirts of Bristol.
I am now retired but am a Chartered Structural Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers. I ran an Engineering Consultancy in Swindon for 25 years. I am also a member of Swindon Rotary Club.
We moved into Vine Cottage at the end of August 1985 so we have lived here for just over 39 years.
I became a Parish Councillor in May 2019
My areas of expertise on the Council relate to Highways and Planning.
I became a Parish Councillor because I care about the Community and its environs.
Having been involved with Uplands School for children with Special Educational Needs in Swindon since the early 1990’s as a Governor and latterly as a Trustee of the Uplands Enterprise Trust I was aware of the contribution that I could make to these organisations and anticipated that I would be able to help the Village in a similar way. I am also an Associate Governor of Kingshill School.
I have found that since becoming a Councillor I have been able to use my expertise by contributing to the Design in Preston document and the Neighbourhood Development Plan, both of which I found fulfilling.
Apart from these two documents I also acted as Liaison with the developers of the Solar Farm in Witpit Lane and I am also on the Village Hall Committee.
Apart from all the above I enjoy helping my wife look after our garden, although I am happy to admit this is restricted to the heavy work!
